What we collect and why

Privacy
Policy

The short version: we collect only what we need to run the server, we don't sell it, and you can ask us about it any time.

01Who we are

SpoonSMP (“we”, “us”) runs the Minecraft server at play.spoonsmp.eu, this website and the SpoonSMP Discord. We are the controller of the personal data described below.

This policy explains what we collect, why, who sees it and what your rights are. For questions, contact us through our Discord.

02What we collect

When you play on the server

  • Your Minecraft username and UUID, and whether you play on Java or Bedrock.
  • Your IP address and connection details (needed to connect you and to enforce bans).
  • Gameplay data: your inventory, builds, stats, locations and activity in the world.
  • Chat messages, private messages and commands, which are logged for moderation.
  • Moderation records such as warnings, mutes and bans.

When you use Discord

  • Your Discord user ID, username, roles and the messages you post in our server. Discord also processes this data under its own privacy policy.

When you visit this website

  • We don't have accounts, forms or advertising on the site, and we don't set cookies or run analytics.
  • Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, time and page requested) for security and troubleshooting.

03Why we use it

We use your data to run and secure the server, which is our legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR. Specifically:

  • to let you connect and to save your progress;
  • to moderate chat, investigate reports and enforce our Rules, including ban evasion;
  • to keep the server and website secure and working;
  • to communicate with you on Discord.

We don't sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising or profiling.

04Who we share it with

Only people and services that help us run SpoonSMP see your data.

  • Staff can see logs and moderation records as needed for their role.
  • Hosting and infrastructure providers process data on our behalf to keep the server and website online.
  • Discord and Mojang/Microsoft handle data under their own policies when you use their services.
  • Authorities, if we are legally required to or need to protect someone's safety.

05Third-party services on this site

To show you the live server status and the page's look, your browser makes requests to these services, which will see your IP address as with any website:

  • Google Fonts for typefaces.
  • mcsrvstat.us for live server status and the player list.
  • mc-heads.net for player avatars on the home page.
  • A Cloudflare Worker operated by us for the Discord member count.

Each has its own privacy policy. We have no control over how they handle data.

06How long we keep it

We keep data only as long as we need it for the purposes above.

  • Gameplay data is kept while the world exists, or until you ask us to delete it.
  • Chat and command logs are kept for a limited time for moderation and then deleted.
  • Ban records are kept for as long as the ban is active, so that it can be enforced.
  • Discord messages stay until deleted by you or by staff.

07Your rights

If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you;
  • correct data that is wrong;
  • ask us to delete your data, where we don't have a reason to keep it;
  • object to or ask us to restrict how we use it;
  • receive your data in a portable format.

To use any of these, message staff through our Discord. We may need to verify that you own the account. You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.

08Children

Many Minecraft players are young. We don't ask for more information than the server needs and we don't knowingly collect data for any other purpose. Parents and guardians can contact us to ask what we hold about their child or to request deletion.

09Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your data, including limiting staff access to logs. No online service is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. Never share your Minecraft or Discord password with anyone, including staff. We will never ask for it.

10Changes to this policy

If we change how we use data we will update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes we'll also post a notice on our Discord.

Questions or requests? Message staff on our Discord. Our Terms and Rules also apply to your use of SpoonSMP.
